Join Dr. Erik Lilleskov, research ecologist with the USDA Forest Service at the Northern Research Station in Houghton, to explore the role of fungi in ecosystems and the major groups of fungi. Next, Lea Sevigny, Forest Hills Middle School teacher, will describe how she engages her students in looking closely at the wonders of the natural world through a mushroom hunting activity. This asynchronous lesson was developed for use with students who are learning at home. It includes a video with questions, an outdoor exploration, and an opportunity to share their discoveries. Lastly, Joan Chadde, with the MTU Center for Science & Environmental Outreach will share a Fungi field trip lesson and several resources for mushroom ID. Participants should bring 3 fungi with them to class!
