LSSI teacher workshop visits Algomah Acres Honey Farm and the Wintergreen Farm

A half-dozen teachers from schools in Baraga, Keweenaw and Houghton counties visited Algomah Acres Honey Farm where apiarists, Melissa Hronkin and John Hersman, explained bee care and the production side of the beekeeping operation where the honey is spun and hive products are created. The next stop was Wintergreen Farm owned by Andrea & Scott Corpolongo Smith. The Wintergreen Farm is a "CSA" or Community Supported Agriculture endeavor. Participants learned their some of their secrets of farming, and admired the wonderful produce they grow and sell locally. The workshop was sponsored by the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative (LSSI) that provided transportation, lunch, and classroom resources for participating teachers.
