| LSSI grants awarded to Dollar Bay HS and Lake Linden-Hubbell Middle School |
 |
Dollar Bay HS proposal for $5700 was approved by the LSSI Advisory Board on April 7. The project is titled: Designing and Building ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) for the Exploration of Local Marine Environments. They proposed to create a unique science inquiry course which involves students designing, constructing, and testing remote underwater vehicles (ROV) to research a variety of topics below the surface of the water which can provide data for university research projects. The high school students will process, analyze and report their discoveries.
and Lake Linden-Hubbell Middle School (8th grade class) has received $5500 for their project to adopt the shoreline of Torch Lake from the public boat launch, through the Village Park & campground to the mouth of the Trap Rock River. We will monitor, maintain, preserve, and enhance the shoreline though trash pick-ups, planting native shrubs to reduce shoreline erosion and increase bird diversity, and small construction projects to enhance recreation and interpretation of the site for visitors. Our vision is to provide the local community with more low impact recreation opportunities as well as informing residents and visitors alike about the unique history of the area. |
