Three LSSI teacher teams plan their own professional development
Three Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative (LSSI) school teams are registering for SB-CEUs as they take charge of their own professional development by reading and discussing books with teachers, parents, and community members starting in January 2010.

C-L-K Elementary teachers will read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver, Camille Kingsolver, and Steven L. Hopp, as they explore the value of engaging their students in gardening, learning about where their food comes from, and eating healthy foods.

EB Holman teachers and CJ Sullivan Elementary teachers will read Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder by Richard Louv to explore the benefits to their students of cultivating a 'sense of place.'

Each school is using money from their current grant cycle to purchase multiple copies of the books.
