Teachers attend Great Lakes Place-Based Education Conference
Teachers Cindy McCormick and Cheryl Ruohonen from Jeffers High School; Janet Larson, Jean Dunstan, and Deirdre Erbisch from Stanton Township School; community partner Laura Smyth, and the LSSI Leadership Team of Shawn Oppliger, Joan Chadde and Lloyd Wescoat, attended the 3rd annual Great Lakes Place-Based Education Conference on Nov. 8-9 in Grand Rapids, sponsored by the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.
The 3rd Annual Great Lakes Place-based Education Conference brought together practitioners and teachers from formal and non-formal education, hub partners from communities across Michigan, and regional practitioners, all of whom provide vital leadership and resources to the cause of developing environmental stewards of the Great Lakes and its ecosystems.
Oppliger, McCormick, and Dunstan presented "Global Watershed Partnership with Schools." Erbisch and Larson presented "Cooperative learning--presenting lessons for multi-grade groups." Smyth presented "Tell Me A Story: creative writing across the curriculum." Wescoat presented on "Professional Book Clubs," and Chadde co-presented on "Environmental Service Learning Project" with funder Jan Sneddon of Earth Force.
