LAKE LINDEN -- 35 10th grade biology students from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School took their classroom lesson outside. Students learn hands on of ecology at the Lake Linden Sands Friday afternoon.

Students bird-watched and installed six nesting bird houses. They also planted red-osier dogwoods and dark-green bulrush to increase shoreline vegetation. The Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative gave a generous grant to make it all happen.

Biology class teacher Nick Squires says, "It's a grant made available for local schools to have the community, as well as the school participate in a stewardship program."

This is the 7th year the high school has participated in an LSSI community stewardship project.
