Copper Country Audubon donates $500 to Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative

By DANA RICHTER, COPPER COUNTRY AUDUBON

The Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative (LSSI) is an education program that connects schools and communities in the Lake Superior region. It is administered by the Copper Country Intermediate School District (CCISD). The program brings together kids and community partners to study local issues, conduct projects that foster place-based education and care for the Lake Superior watershed.

Copper Country Audubon participates in LSSI projects at several schools in the area. Some of the projects are bird watching walks, putting up and maintaining bird houses and bird feeders, bird presentations, and the annual field trip to show kids spring bird migration on Brockway Mountain.

Our members know that one of the most important things we can do for birds is to engage young people in their care and appreciation. We are glad to donate to such a successful and wholesome program that teaches kids about nature and care for the environment in the Lake Superior watershed, explains Dana Richter, president of Copper Country Audubon.
