Horizons High School students enjoy some bumps in the trail

The Center for Science, Math and Environmental Education has teamed up with Horizons High School to offer youth-at-risk a variety of exciting, experiential activities during April and May of 2012 as a pilot program.

The activities offered will help decrease stress by helping students develop new skills and hobbies that are relaxing, enjoyable and expand students’ interest areas, including art, nature, outdoor survival skills and physical fitness. Activities are led by Beth Squires and Michelle Miller from the Center for Science, Math and Environmental Education, as well as, invited community experts in Tai Chi-Qigong,, mountain biking, and photography.
The Horizons High School experiential learning program is funded with a $1500 grant from the Youth Advisory Council of the Keweenaw Community Foundation.

The entire student body at Horizon HS is participating in the following four experiential learning classes:

April 20: Shelter building (Beth Squires/ Michelle Miller) & Tai Chi-Qigong (Darlene Basto)

May 11: Mountain Biking (Cross Country Sports) & Nature Observation Activities (Beth/Michelle)

May 22: Photography workshop (with Charlie Eshbach) at Horizons HS, 1-3 pm
