The Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative (LSSI) has been a
regional hub of the Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative since
2007. It works with small, rural schools and communities in
Houghton, Baraga, Keweenaw, Ontonagon, and Gogebic counties
in Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula. LSSI leads and
supports professional development for teachers and community
partners, place-based stewardship projects by
school-community teams, related field trips for students,
and community events. The Lake Superior Stewardship
Initiative is hosted by the Copper Country Intermediate
School District working in partnership with Michigan
Technological University.
