We are thrilled to share that LSSI's own Lloyd Wescoat is the well-deserved recipient of this year’s Dragonfly Award! Lloyd was honored and celebrated by her community at the 2023 Place-Based Education Conference in Grand Rapids, MI this past weekend! The Dragonfly Award honors a person who has made a significant contribution to the field of place-based stewardship education. Past awardees include K-12 teachers, non-formal educators, scholars, scientists, authors, and philanthropists.
Just after the award ceremony, Lloyd was also gifted a felted heart by Monique Gray Smith during her keynote address (author of Braiding Sweet Grass for Young Adults). Monique shared this gift as a way of recognizing the many hearts Lloyd has touched in her decades of service to K-12 students, educators, and countless community partners through her work with the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative. We are beyond happy to see Lloyd honored in this beautiful way!
Every year LSSI brings together students from across the Western Upper Peninsula to celebrate their stewardship projects. https://sites.google.com/mtu...
